About Saltmarsh Keep

Saltmarsh Keep is a small review site for online worlds that run in a web page: castles, islands, farms, arenas. Three of us write it. We have been walking this kind of world since the days when a village and a barracks were the whole genre, and we still have not learned to stop.

The name

A keep on a saltmarsh is a place you reach by knowing the tide. Show up at the wrong hour and the path is under water; show up at the right one and the walk is easy. Most of the worlds we cover are like that: the difference between a good season and a miserable one is knowing when to log in, and that is mostly what we try to tell you.

What joins the walk

• Runs in a normal web browser with nothing to install.
• Free to register and to play properly. A shop is fine; a paywall on the core loop is not.
• No real-money gambling of any kind. We do not cover casino, slot or betting products and never will.
• Live for at least a year with an active English-speaking community.

How we are paid

The "Set out" buttons are affiliate links. Sign up through one and the publisher may pay us a small commission, which covers hosting. Publishers cannot buy a place, do not see a verdict before publication and have never been offered a higher one for anything. Verdicts are locked before links are added, and a world that falls below 7.0 on re-test is dropped whatever the link earns.

Seasons

Four walks a year. Worlds carry over while they hold their verdict. We do not keep old seasons online because an out-of-date review is worse than none.
